FAMILY-TRUCKS
Sometimes when you
are on the road you think you see a Transcontinental, but when it is coming closer you
see it is not. There are still a few Renault R series or Major on the road. Berliet en later Renault put
the cab lower on the chassis then Ford did. In early Berliets the engine tunnel
is huge, in the later Renault TR310 en Majors the engine tunnel is lower but still bigger
as in a Transcontinental. Also a Frensh
heavy haulage constructer used the Berliet cab, and it is even
higher then the Transcontinental. I also putted here some pictures of other trucks which
have a relation with the Transcontinental. F.i. the DAF 95.500, although the
Cummins engine is the only connection (the DAF had the Cummins N14 engine the
successor of the NTE engine), this truck was also build in the Netherlands and
just like the Transcontinental it never became a sales succes and only a few hundred were made. And
offcourse there is the Renault Magnum. Nowaydays some people call the
Transcontinental "Fred Flinstones Renault Magnum", I consider this as a
compliment. Click on the thumbs to enlarge
